Redsun – a pioneer in Vietnamese solar panel production
Established in 2007, Red Sun Energy Long An Company Limited focused on designing and producing energy-saving products. Redsun’s mission is to bring solutions for clean, environmentally friendly energy sources – thereby improving the quality of life of individuals, organisations and businesses. In 2008, they were the first organisation to construct and operate a monocrystalline and polycrystalline photovoltaic cell solar panel factory in Vietnam. The factory – based in the Long An province – produces solar panels with a capacity of 3Wp to 350Wp, an efficiency of more than 16% and a power guarantee of 25 years.
Redsun first came to Wiser Environment in 2022 requesting support for their solar rooftop design projects. Specifically, the team at Wiser was enlisted to help Redsun develop and manage an environmental and social management system (ESMS). The aim of this project was to use our independent knowledge and experience to develop an ESMS that enables a safe construction environment for the rooftop solar project.
An ESMS that enables safe construction environments for solar rooftop projects
Previously, the existing processes and systems were created on an individual project basis. With an eye toward meeting their ambitions as a business, Redsun wanted a robust ESMS that was written to both a local and international standard. In order to create a robust environmental and social management system that would meet Redsun’s needs, we knew we needed to start from scratch.
If an organisation does not have a system to manage their environmental and social impacts, then they might not be able to handle those things effectively. This can lead to a range of problems. Such as negative publicity, financial penalties, damage to reputation, difficulty securing investment, increased regulation and more. An effective management system can help an organisation to avoid these risks by providing a framework for best practice.
Improving the system’s scope & efficiency
To get the project started, our consultants had a meeting with the Redsun project team. Here, the aim was to fully understand the scope of and scale of their operations and the project at hand. Then over the period of 15 days, we identified and improved key documents and processes.
For instance, we drafted an HSE policy that set out how they will manage Health, Safety and Environment risks. The HSE policy highlighted Redsun’s clear commitment to protecting the health and safety of employees, contractors and visitors.
Our team also prepared plans to prevent and respond to emergencies. In the event of an emergency, Redsun now has a clear plan in place to ensure that the health and safety of everyone is protected. The plan incorporated steps to:
- Identify who is responsible for responding to emergencies.
- Make sure that the right operators are trained and equipped to deal with any potential incidents.
- Develop a clear communications plan to ensure that the Redsun team knows what to do in the event of an emergency.
- Ensure that there are adequate resources in place to deal with any potential incidents.
In addition, we created waste management procedures for Redsun. Using our global experience, our team designed a process that outlined the steps and procedures needed to handle and dispose of waste materials safely and compliantly We also tailored the process in accordance with Vietnamese regulations and international practices.
Looking forward to the future
Overall, the project was a great success and delivered results beyond the expectations of the client. Redsun now has an ESMS in place that meets their needs as a business. Giving them the foundation they need to manage their environmental and social impacts effectively. We are delighted to help them achieve their goals. Going further, the project has enhanced our relationship with Redsun and – as with all of our clients – we look forward to a long and successful future working together.
